Polaris-10
The PL10, Polaris-10, accommodates small to medium size telescopes,
particular Schmidt-Cassegrain and Newtonians (on German Equatorials)
up to 16in. diameters. The Polaris-10 is suitable for use by individuals
or groups up to three persons, depending on the size of the telescope.
Polaris-15
The PL15, Polaris-15 accommodates virtually any size telescope except
the largest research models. The Polaris-15 is especially suitable
for institutional use, for research, or to accommodate groups of
student users or the general public. The Polaris features a wall
system that allows you to install your Polaris on a building or
at ground level. Modular wall rings, each 1 in height, may
be stacked to construct virtually any height wall to accommodate
your telescope. The wall ring design matches the base ring included
with the basic observatory, complementing the beautiful appearance
of the observatory.
Polaris Observatory Design
The Polaris 10 and 15 foot observatories share the same well-proven
design. Each observatory has a full hemispherical dome composed
of two quadrant pairs bolted together along internal
flanges. The quadrant pairs frame each side of a generous slot.
Each dome rests on a 12 high base ring that incorporates ball
bearing rollers for dome rotation. An electric dome rotation system
is included as standard equipment.
The PL10, Polaris-10, shutter opening is 36 in. wide, while the
PL15, Polaris-15, is 48 inches wide. In both cases, the shutter
opening extends up to zenith and half a shutter width beyond. The
opening is covered by two shutters, one on the front, one on top.
The shutters open by sliding up and over the dome, then nest together
outside the rear cover. Two integral, automatic latches lock the
shutter parts together for security when closed. An electric shutter
system is included as standard equipment.
